Dream as if you’ll live forever. Live as if you’ll die today.
‘Rebel Without a Cause’ has achieved status for the iconic acting of James Dean, who died before the film’s release on October 27, 1955.
James Dean is remembered as a cultural icon of teenage disillusionment and social estrangement, as expressed in the title of his most celebrated film.
In 1954 James Dean became interested in developing a car racing career and started chasing cars, bought his first Porsche 356 C Cabriolet and later his Porsche 550 Spyder named ‘Little Bastard’. On September 30, 1955 at 3:30 p.m.
James Dean was ticketed for speeding; at approx. 5:15 p.m passing an intersection, he slammed into the driver’s side of a Ford Tudor.
The Porsche 550 Spyder bounced over onto the side of the highway. James Dean was trapped in the car and died due to inumerous fatal injuries.
James Dean had a relationship with young Italian actress Pier Angeli. A number of forces led them apart, Angeli’s mother disapproved of Dean’s casual dress and his behavior traits like his T-shirt attire, late dates and his fast cars.
‘We would talk about ourselves and our problems, about life and life after death, we had a complete understanding of each other.’
James Dean was the love of her life. After two marriages Pier Angeli died from an overdose in 1971, at the age of 39.
James Dean also dated Swiss actress Ursula Andress. She was seen riding around Hollywood on the back of James’s motorcycle.
She was also seen with Dean in his sports cars, and was with him on the day he bought the car that he died in. At the time, Andress was also dating Marlon Brando.
Humphrey Bogart commented after Dean’s death about his public image and legacy: ‘Dean died at just the right time. He left behind a legend. If he had lived, he’d never have been able to live up to his publicity.’
