1967-01-29 San Francisco, USA / Ten thousand Years / Zehntausend Jahre / Dez mil Anos / Diez mil Años

The Mantra-Rock Dance concert on January 29, 1967, at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco was later called the ultimate high and the major spiritual event of the San Francisco hippie era.

It was organized by followers of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness as an opportunity for its founder, Bhaktivedanta Swami.

To address a wider public on his mission was to propagate, throughout the World, Krishna Consciousness that had been taught to him by his guru.

Since in New York City from India in 1965 he had caught a powerful rising tide of a counterculture that was fascinated with his homeland and open to new forms of Consciousness expanding spirituality.

I do not know why You have brought me here. Now You can do whatever You like with me. But I guess You have some business here, otherwise why would You bring me to this terrible place? How will I make them understand this message of Krishna Consciousness?

I am very unfortunate, unqualified and most fallen. Therefore I am seeking Your benediction so that I can convince them, for I am powerless to do so on my own.

As of 2017 ISKCON has become a worldwide confederation of more than 850 temples and centres, including 60 farm communities, some aiming for self-sufficiency, 50 schools, and 90 restaurants.

I have started this Krishna Conscious Movement among the Indians and Americans and for the next ten thousand years it will increase.

Bhaktivedanta Swami died on 14th November 1977 in Vrindavan, India. His burial remains in Krishna Balaram Mandir in Vrindavan India. Near the temple is his shrine built of pure white marble.
