Mary also known by various titles, styles and honorifics, was the mother of Jesus, according to the New Testament and the Quran.
The gospels of Matthew and Luke in the New Testament and the Quran describe Mary as a virgin and Christians believe that she conceived her son while a virgin by the Holy Spirit.
Josef is a figure in the Gospels, the husband of Mary, mother of Jesus, and is venerated as Saint Josef in the Catholic Church, Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodox Church, Anglican Communion, Lutheranism and Methodism.
Christian tradition places Josef as Jesus’ legal father.
The Marriage of the Virgin is the subject in Christian art depicting the marriage of the Virgin Mary and Saint Josef.
The marriage is not mentioned in the canonical Gospels but is covered in several apocryphal sources, and later redactions, notably the 14th century compilation the Golden Legend.
