A demonstration or street protest is action by a mass group or collection of groups of people in favor of a political or other cause.

It normally consists of walking in a mass march formation and either beginning with or meeting at a designated endpoint, or rally, to hear speakers.

The 2013 protests in Brazil, or 2013 Confederations Cup riots, were public demonstrations in several Brazilian cities, initiated mainly by the Movimento Passe Livre (Free Fare Movement).

The demonstrations were initially organized to protest against increases in bus, train, and metro ticket prices in some Brazilian cities.

The demonstrations grew to include other issues such as the high corruption in the government and police brutality used against some demonstrators.

By mid-June, the movement had grown to become Brazil’s largest since the 1992.
