One World Trade Center is the main building of the rebuilt World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan, New York City.
The new skyscraper stands on the northwest corner of the 6.5 ha World Trade Center site, on the site of the original 6 World Trade Center, which was destroyed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
The new complex will eventually include five high-rise office buildings as well as the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, located where the original Twin Towers stood.
The symbolic cornerstone of One World Trade Center was laid in a ceremony on July 4th, 2004.
However, construction was delayed until 2006 due to disputes over money, security, and design. The building opened on November 3rd, 2014.
One World Trade Center includes sustainable architecture features and is expected to receive a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification, making it one of the most environmentally sustainable skyscrapers in the World.
