I had scheduled the car for the inspection this morning and knew I would spend the whole day at the Volkswagen dealer. Not really much of an adventure but a necessary part of it. My only friend the car needed a break and a profound checkup. I had been using the car probably more than it was designed for. I had spent about 1000 km on off road streets and most likely pushed the engine and the suspensions and brakes to its limits. I was expecting some change of parts at this inspection.
I spent the whole morning in the waiting room on the black comfortable leather sofa with coffee and water, air condition and internet, toilet and television. The waiting room was my home for the today and I would take total advantage of it, unfortunately this meant that I would spend as well most of the day working. The waiting room could have been my lounge, but it was actually more my office.
The last days I went all the time to the parking area of the nearby hospital with lots of trees and shade and three small kiosks with fresh, cold drinks and a variety of snacks. I fell in love with the Maracuja juice and had three every morning for breakfast, two for lunch and two before closing. El Niño had an influence on the climate in the northeast and it was extremely hot in Boa Vista and I needed and drank more than usual.
I had a snack for lunch and went back to my office and continued working and looking for hotels for next week. The nature in the state of Roraima is stunning and inviting, more for bikers, climbers and animal watchers than for the leisure tourist. The city was extremely well organized but at the same time did not offer too much of leisure facilities for children, neither playgrounds in the city nor beaches at the riverbanks of the river Rio Branco.
The final result of the medical check of the Volkswagen Polo was positive and everything was normal, change of filters and oil. Some minor parts of the engine needed to be replaced but all together I spent the predicted amount of money for the inspection. The car was ready and lean, but I refused to pay and spent up to closing time in my office to do as much as possible, still knowing that I would have to continue tomorrow.
Tonight I would go back to the parking in a rather wealthy area with some empty plots and little light. The area was elevated and had a small breeze throughout the night. Being a class A area I felt secure and so far the neighborhood did not complain about the nightly gringo visitor.
