I did not want to spend another day in paradise and went back to the crossroads to go this time the other direction to another beach, Playa Puy Puy. It was still very early in the morning and I had the whole beach and the bay for me. The pelicans gathered in one corner of the bay and had breakfast. I had a walk from one end to the other and enjoyed the early morning temperature and realized that I did not have as much walks as I figured at the beginning of the project. I felt very comfortable being just by myself and having another paradise just for me.
The beach had an area with bungalows and an area which had been fenced off due to turtle’s having laid eggs. There were actually several sign boards indicating the existence of turtle’s eggs at this beach. The whole atmosphere of peaceful nature invited me to take a bath and completely refresh myself. Some clouds turned up at the sky and as they got more and more I decided to park the car next to the first bungalow. The bungalow had a small two by two meter front porch and I was actually hoping for the weather to change and for the rain to pour down and play some music for me.
I had 15 minutes of slight rain and made the first bungalow’s porch my home. I sat down and looked towards the sea and listened to the sound of the rain. The rain became stronger and stronger and I had to move closer to the entrance door in the center of the bungalow and the porch and cover myself a bit with my towel. My space was exactly the space that would not get wet and I had about an hour, one CD length of chill out rain music. This paradise had no parking and no user costs, no people and no drinks. I became thirsty and went back on the road for about two kilometers to find a small kiosk for me to buy two bottles of Pepsi.
I went back again, the sun came back again and after two hours the thirst came back again. I went to the kiosk but this time it was closed. I went for another kilometer and another and another and suddenly decided to continue my drive to the city of San Juan de las Unare. The drive was a mountain drive along steep rainforest hills. It was yet another panoramic drive even though it was cloudy and raining a little bit.
The inland road was quite high and the hills very steep and I made a stop at several viewing points to let the nature overwhelm me. It got even better when suddenly the sea turned up again and the drive continued at the same height for another 15 kilometers until the city of San Juan de las Galdonas turned up.
It was a quick and steep drive down into what seemed from the distance to be a calm and pretty fisher village. I cannot tell exactly what it was but I did not have the feeling that I would spend the night here. I made the obligatory pictures and rushed my way back in order now to continue and make it to the final destination of the northeast corner of Venezuela and the state of Sucre, Guiria. I was tempted as well to find out about the chance to take a ferry and make it to Trinidad and Tobago and was obviously hoping to find another paradise.
I arrived in darkness and stopped at the main square and had a Hot Dog and an ice cold bottle of Fanta. I drank and realized that I had left four hours ago my Puy Puy paradise in the search for a drink. The thirst disappeared both due to the scenic drive to San Juan de Unare and the strange feeling of the same fisher village. I had another Hot Dog, another bottle of ice cold Fanta and made it another 5 kilometers to what seemed a nice secure frontline beach parking.

For a small understanding of the days travel, I have included a Google Earth map. The red pins mark the locations I have stopped and taken pictures. At the bottom of the page you will find a link for all the pictures I have taken. The link will open in a Picasa album. At the top left of this Picasa album you will find the button for a Slideshow.
