The airport of Baranquilla had quite a lot of benches and actually more than a few passengers had to use them last night to find some rest or sleep due to a flight cancellation. I as well was one of the passengers, not really an airport passenger but a passenger. The light though had been too bright and been shining right into my face and so I looked for a better place and changed to the outside covered area of the airport on the lower level.

I found a beautiful spacious stone bench and with a fresh breeze in my face I continued my rest and finally fell asleep. The well covered location allowed me to sleep until late this morning and only the noise of the first arriving passengers and the taxi drivers woke me up.

I asked a gardener for a cheap restaurant close to the airport; I did not want to spend money for expensive food and expensive drinks inside the airport and I did not want spend money on a bus to drive into the city. We walked just a few meters towards the taxi entrance and he pointed to a small building in between some trees. This was the restaurant for the airport staff, for the taxi drivers and for poor backpackers like me. The prices were half compared to the airport restaurants or kiosks and the restaurant offered more typical food, more basic food. I had breakfast, my Colombian potato with spicy sauce and a Coca Cola.

I had struggled, no I had suffered the last days in Cartagena de Indias due to my friend Frank because he did not show up, because he did not open the cyber. I had believed his words before the long holiday weekend that he would open. Probably even he did not know that the government had moved ‘Holy Three Kings’ from last week’s Wednesday to this week’s Monday. I still had the monthly payments for January in my head and wanted to spend all day today trying to resolve this. I was tired or walking around with 15 kilogram of weight of my backpack and another 75 kilogram of psychological weight of my bank account.

I sat down at the recharge station and connected to the internet. I had received a message from my ex business partner about the outstanding payment and he promised me to do the deposit before the end of the week. Simple communication, just a quick message, a quick update helps in so many situations in life, no matter if business or personal. Lack of communication is probably the main reason for breakups of relationships followed by lack of love and lack of payment. Was I relieved now? Not really, I had a promise, maybe a commitment but I still did not have the payment in my bank account. I had to wait again for a Monday.

It was lunch time and I walked again to the restaurant outside the airport. I had lunch, my Colombian potato with spicy sauce and a Coca Cola. I was sure, I did not want to take a bus and drive to the center of Barranquilla. I did not search for tourist attractions on the internet, most people I have spoken to did not recommend the city because of the level of insecurity. I wanted to take advantage of the free internet access at the airport and work and study and read. Time passed quickly and it was time for dinner. I hate repetitions but walked again to the restaurant outside the airport, had my Colombian potato with spicy sauce and a Coca Cola. 3 is my lucky number, maybe there was a mysterious, secret reason why I had the same food 3 times today; no the Colombian potato was the most economic choice and my favorite. I went back for the third time to the recharge station and worked until midnight.
