I had plenty of time to clean up my small beach house, day-by-day, room by room, bit by bit. The house was clean now and empty, no furniture, no refrigerator, no oven, no table, no chair, no sofa, no bed. I had my Buddha statue, placed a candle to his feet every night, I had my hammock, placed it on the terrace during the day and in the lounge during the night. I did not need more than this. I did not want more than this.

I had done the weekly shopping in a major supermarket in Natal the day I had left my friend Sergio’s house and moved finally to Caraubas. The small village had a small supermarket where I bought my daily ice cold Coca Cola and the small village had a small bakery where I bought my daily bread to accompany my basic but fresh tomato salad. The small village had a small beach right in front of my small beach house.

If Brazil would not be my country of residency, if the northeast of Brazil, the state of Rio Grande do Norte would not be my home state and I would be a simple backpacker passing by I would definitely fall in love with Caraubas. I had fallen in love with so many other small fisher villages during my travel and just because Caraubas was in my home state did not make it different. I actually considered myself extremely lucky to have fallen in love with this small fisher village and could now live this dream in my small beach house.

Sometimes small creates big and for me this small little fisher village created a great satisfaction and happiness.
