Last night when our taxi boat had dropped us off at the sailing boat, I had lost my only pair of glasses, which meant that I had to go back to the shopping or find a pharmacy close to the Iate Clube to buy a new pair because I was blind to short distance.

We had agreed yesterday to stay for the night and leave in the morning, sometimes at around 08:00 hours so I started my search at 06:00 hours in the morning and wanted to be back on the agreed time.

It was getting hot very early and the next pharmacy was further away than I had expected but I had luck and managed to find one pharmacy that was open at this time of the day and had glasses.

When I came back to the sailing boat with my new glasses Alexandre was not there anymore, strange surprise. I waited for 1 hour but it got  very hot very quickly and I decided to go back to the Iate Clube.

I called the next taxi boat and by chance, our taxi boat driver came to pick me up and told me that he had picked up Alexandre earlier and that he had left him at the beach where he wanted to buy some ice cubes.

I had time for some sightseeing. The Iate Clube was located very close to the historical center and another strange surprise, the historical center was quiet well maintained and worth exploring.

End of the street, end of the neighborhood, end of the historical center. I crossed the street, walked up the ramp of the platform of the memorial and could see the whole bay of Maceio.

I had heard of Maceio only being a dangerous and violent city, strange surprise, the bay was beautiful, the beach was beautiful, the sea was beautiful, the blue sky was beautiful and my day was beautiful. I walked along the promenade back to the Iate Clube and met up again with my lost sailing professor Alexandre.

Alexandre waited for the other group and after they had arrived, discussed sailing matters, sailor matters and other Brazilian matters. We had waited almost 24 hours for the other group, we now both had finished our preparations on our boats and we both were ready to leave. Strange surprise, suddenly we did not have to wait for them anymore, suddenly we did not have to wait another 15 or 30 or 60 minutes.

Alexandre gave the ok to leave and we would never see the other group again, strange surprise. Maceio was half way and we still had another 2 to 3 days ahead of us before reaching our final destination Salvador. The wind was favorable and we sailed quietly into the sunset and into the night.
