If you believe in Love at first sight … you never stop looking!
The movie Closer, like the play on which it is based, has been seen by some as a modern and tragic version of Mozart’s opera ‘Così fan tutte’, with references to the opera in both the plot and the soundtrack.
The title, ‘Così fan tutte’, literally means Thus do all [women], translated into English as ‘Women are like that’.
The words are sung by the three men in act 2, scene 13, just before the finale; this melodic phrase is also quoted in the overture to the opera.
The music of Irish folk singer Damien Rice is featured in the film, most notably the song The Blower’s Daughter, whose lyrics had parallels to many of the themes in the film.
And so it is just like you said it would be
Life goes easy on me
most of the time
And so it is the shorter story
No love, no glory
No hero in her sky
I can’t take my eyes off of you
I can’t take my eyes off you
I can’t take my eyes off of you
I can’t take my eyes off you
I can’t take my eyes off you
I can’t take my eyes
And so it is just like you said it should be
We’ll both forget the breeze
Most of the time
And so it is the colder water
The Blower’s Daughter
The pupil in denial
I can’t take my eyes off of you
I can’t take my eyes off you
I can’t take my eyes off of you
I can’t take my eyes off you
I can’t take my eyes off you
I can’t take my eyes
Did I say that I loathe you?
Did I say that I want to
Leave it all behind?
I can’t take my mind off of you
I can’t take my mind off you
I can’t take my mind off of you
I can’t take my mind off you
I can’t take my mind off you
I can’t take my mind
my mind my mind
‘Til I find somebody new
