Sehnsucht is a German noun translated as Yearning or in a wider sense a type of intensely missing. However, Sehnsucht is difficult to translate adequately and describes a deep emotional state.

Its meaning is similar to the Portuguese word Saudade, a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for an absent something or Someone that one loves.

Sehnsucht was once described as the love that remains after someone is gone.
