Even on the most perfect weekend day, you will see only a handful of empty berth’s in the Yachtclub; most sailing boats jostle in their place.

Smart, motivated, and capable people own these sailing boats: doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, craftsmen, teachers, engineers, etc.

They have sacrificed and saved and dedicated significant resources for years to buy, berth, and maintain their sailing boats, yet barely use them and very, very few actually end up out there living the ‘Cruising Dream.’

Why? Not enough time? Life is too crazy? Priorities have changed? Out of money? The real reason is: She is not on board.

While the registration may indicate joint ownership, this is most often ‘His’ dream and this is ‘His’ sailing boat.

You can bet that if ‘She’ shared his enthusiasm, motivation, and the ‘Cruising Dream’, the sailing boat would leave the berth more often and travel much further.

I am sailing
I am sailing
Home again
‘Cross the sea
I am sailing,
Stormy waters
To be near you,
To be free

I am flying,
I am flying
Like a bird
‘Cross the sky
I am flying,
Passing high clouds
To be with you,
To be free

Can you hear me, can you hear me
Through the dark night, far away
I am dying, forever crying
To be with you, who can say

Can you hear me, can you hear me
Through the dark night far away
I am dying, forever crying
To be with you, who can say

We are sailing, we are sailing
Home again
‘Cross the sea
We are sailing
Stormy waters
To be near you,
To be free

Oh Lord, to be near you, to be free

Most people take the song to be about a young guy telling his girl that he is crossing the Atlantic to be with her.

In fact the song got nothing to do with romance or ships; it is an account of Human‘s Spiritual Odyssey through life on his way to freedom and fulfillment with the Supreme Being.

I am Sailing is a song composed by Gavin Sutherland in 1972, best known as a 1975 international hit for Rod Stewart.
