I had to change place during the night from the beach to the salt installations at the entrance of the village. Two handful of boys from the neighborhood turned up and I wanted to prepare myself well for the today’s leave. Not that they were noisy, no, there was something else. I felt that it was going to be a difficult day today.

From Macau to Pendencias is a 20 km drive and Pendencias was on the way, if I wanted it or not. I wanted to see the house of Adriana Pereira da Silva, I wanted to see the grave of Adriana Pereira da Silva, I wanted to see the business of Adriana Pereira da Silva and I wanted to see the house of the mother of Adriana Pereira da Silva. Adriana Pereira da Silva is the mother of Bebê.

A visit to the cemetery is always difficult, today the cemetery of Pendencias it is the place where Adriana Pereira da Silva is. The cemetery is home to my admired father, to my guardian grandmother and simply to all my family members, who have passed away and chosen to be buried in the traditional Christian way. Every time I arrive in Germany, I go to the cemetery and say ‘Hello’ and say ‘Good Bye’, when I leave.

I knew part of the way, as I have driven it before, but, as if I have never seen them before, the dunes on the way were spectacular. Desert and sand dunes have this magic; impressive though simple; very similar to the arctic. One is actually plain accumulation of sand, mounted up by geography from underneath and wind from above, the other is actually plain accumulation of snow, mounted up by geography from underneath and wind from above. Yesterday it was the drums, today it is the dunes. I am not just a simple person, probably a very simple person.

When I took the ferry three elderly entered as well, a blind man with a harmonica guided by an old lady and an old man with the iron triangle. Immediately they set down and started to play this so Brazilian northeastern simple desert country music Forró pé-de-serra, with the blind man playing the harmonica and the other man the triangle and the vocal, the singing. Two simple characters being able to play music, to create harmony, to deliver joy, at least to me, that was a moment  of the luck that I considered to have had too much in my intense life. Time disappeared and one hour waiting for departure seemed nothing. Probably a very, very simple person, I am.

I drove on and arrived in Icapui, went to the supermarket and had a turkey sandwich, chose the Mirador as the place to park and sleep for the night. Rest, should be the correct word, as I have not slept now for four days, I have rested.
